Addressing the challenges of migrant women’s inclusion in Europe means acknowledging the complexity of their experiences, often shaped by overlapping and interrelated linguistic, economic, cultural, and social barriers. It is within this framework that LiLI – Life and Language Skills + Intersectionality for Migrant Women Integration was conceived, a European project coordinated by Programma integra and funded by the European Commission through the Erasmus+ Programme.
From November 2025 to October 2027, LiLI aims to strengthen migrant women’s autonomy, foster their active participation in society, and raise awareness among professionals working in the social and education sectors on issues related to intersectionality.
The initiative is grounded in a shared understanding: full integration requires access to adequate language skills, but it cannot be achieved without the development of so-called life skills—the competencies that enable individuals to navigate everyday life, work environments, public services, and social relationships. LiLI seeks to integrate these two dimensions into an innovative, digital, and flexible learning pathway, built around the real needs of migrant women living in European Union countries.
To achieve this goal, five European organisations—Programma integra and Paulon International School Impresa Sociale (Italy), KMOP (Greece), Stichting Netwerkpro (the Netherlands), and BUPNET (Germany)—will collaborate to develop training tools that combine language learning with transversal skills.
The project will build on the CLIL methodology (Content and Language Integrated Learning) and a microlearning approach, consisting of short, easily accessible lessons designed for learners with limited time availability or digital skills. All materials will be collected in a multilingual Catalogue, including manuals and methodological notes aimed at educators and trainers.
In parallel, LiLI will support professionals working in the field of inclusion through a dedicated Intersectionality Toolkit, addressing a crucial concept for understanding how different identity factors—such as gender, origin, migration status, and socio-economic conditions—intersect in shaping opportunities and barriers. The Toolkit will provide practical tools, guidelines, and case studies to help practitioners in social work, education, and public policymaking adopt more equitable, informed, and responsive approaches to complex needs.
Ensuring accessibility and long-term sustainability, LiLI will also develop a digital e-learning platform, designed to be inclusive, intuitive, and accessible via smartphones. The online environment will host both the Learning Catalogue and the Intersectionality Toolkit, enabling customizable, interactive, and shared learning pathways among migrant women, trainers, educators, and policymakers. The platform will remain available after the project’s completion as a free resource, extending the impact of the project over time.
LiLI therefore represents a concrete investment in the personal and professional development of migrant women and in the creation of more inclusive communities. It is a pathway that goes beyond bridging language gaps, embracing an integrated approach that values skills, lived experiences, and potential, while fostering connections between education, empowerment, and socially responsive policies that acknowledge the multiple identities shaping the migration experience.
